Theatre Company

Current and Original material

  • Our current Shakespeare in a Weekend play is "Cymbeline"
  • Original plays for schools - "The Sins of the Fathers" based on the concepts raised in "An Inspector Calls" by J B Priestley - this is courtroom drama surrounding the descendants of the family in Priestly' play. Audience participation needed for the jury in this play.
  • "The Queen's Pawn" - a play in two lengths - short for schools and supper theatre and longer for performance in theatres. This play concerns the truth behind the death of the wife of Lord Robert Dudley, Amy, and how the course of history was altered as a result
  • We have plays written for performance as murder mysteries for sale to either professionals or amateurs, both comic and "scary"!

"The Jade King"

A few years ago, the Misrule Theatre Company involved itself with the BBC/Channel 4 programme, Arts Week. Out of 1,400 entries ours was the only theatre company/drama programme to be chosen for filming - others being music, dance, art and architecture. It was considered completely original and outstanding in its concept and performance.

We had a free choice and thought long and hard about its subject-matter. In the end we chose to re-tell a myth and thus we wrote a play based on the myth surrounding the formation of the Chinese Zodiac and called it "The Jade King and the Animals of Destiny." This play we have introduced to schools and youth groups everywhere and performed it in our "Act Too" programme both for and with children both here and America. It continues to move and inspire audiences and participants alike.
